COMEDY & MAGIC
Esther’s Follies is a cornerstone of Austin’s cultural landscape and the nation’s longest-running vaudeville theatre. For decades, it has blended political satire, magic, music, and physical comedy into a distinctly original live performance experience. Known for its sharp wit and fearless humor, the theater has long served as a creative home for artists who value craft, collaboration, and responsiveness to the cultural moment. Its legacy is rooted not only in longevity, but in its ongoing commitment to live, ensemble-driven performance that reflects both the spirit of Austin and the times in which it exists.
Ellana’s tenure at Esther’s Follies has been a defining chapter of her artistic life—built on the discipline of live performance, the pace of weekly-created material, and the rare magic of an ensemble that has kept Austin laughing for decades.
A long-time Follies veteran, she has spent more than 16 years on the iconic Sixth Street stage as part of the cast, including serving as Ray Anderson’s magician’s assistant, where timing, trust, and audience connection are everything.
As the Esther’s team puts it, there’s “truly…nothing else like it,” and Ellana has grown alongside that legacy—bringing her full range as a singer, dancer, comedic performer, and musician while also helping shape the next generation through co-founding the School of Comedy and teaching kids across Austin.
Magic has been one of the most meaningful elements of Ellana’s work at Esther’s Follies, where she has spent years performing as Ray Anderson’s magician’s assistant.
The role demands absolute trust, precision, and presence—an unspoken partnership between performers that unfolds live, without safety nets.
For Ellana, magic is not just spectacle but an exercise in connection: a shared moment of wonder between artists and audience that can only exist in real time. It remains one of the most grounding and joyful elements of what she does on stage.
